The Cognitive Dissonance of Grass

Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo.
Shovel them under and let me work—
I am the grass; I cover all.

And pile them high at Gettysburg
And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun.
Shovel them under and let me work.
Two years, ten years, and the passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?
Where are we now?

I am the grass.
Let me work.
— Carl Sandburg

Friends gather together, and they realize how wonderful it feels to connect to nature and each other. They discover that grass has been there, carpeting their world and offering a soft place to frolic. Slowly, as they come to, they know they won't be able to stay in this joyous natural state forever and must return to the urban realities of the present.
